Background:With the development and improvment of endodontics, people gradually realized the importance of preserving the vitality of the dental pulp. There are a lot of causes that lead to pulp exposure , but the most common reasons are dental caries and mechanical injury. When the dental pulp is accidentally exposed during cavity preparation, direct pulp capping is frequently used to preserve its vitality. There are many factors which can influence the success rate of the pulp capping, and the performance of pulp-capping agent is one of the most important factors. After Hermann first did the pulp capping with Ca(0H)2 successly in 1930, many materials and medicament have been tested for pulp capping, but no one is ideal. So the Ca(OH)2 still is the most widely used pulp capping agent until then. The advantage of Ca(0H)2 is that it can promote the differentiation of pulp cell and the formation of reparative dentinal bridge, but it can not enhance the ability of regeneration and repair of the pulp tissue. Furthermore, the side effects caused by the high alkaline pH of Ca(0H)2 is often occurred even...
