Objective: Studies investigating seizure outcome following anterior temporal lobectomy and amygdalohippocampectomy for temple lobe epilepsy associated with mesial temporal sclerosis have resulted in conflicting findings,as no significence differences has been reported between them in some studies ,but not for others. To clarify this issue, the present study employed meta analytic principles in a quantitative review of the literature.Material and Method:Search all studies that have been published in the world with regard to seizure outcome of two different temporal lobectomies for temple lobe epilepsy associated with mesial temporal sclerosis, evaluate strictly all the studies and identify those qualified studies .Calculate the odds ratio(OR) for seizurefree during the time to follow-up between the two different temporal lobectomies, and evaluate it with the RevMan4.1 software.Result:4 studies was identified with total 399 cases .The cumulative cases in anterior temporal lobectomy were 150, with 124 cases resulted in Engle I; while in amygdalohippocampectomy 249,with 190 in Engle I.The pooled OR was 1.14,with a 95 % confidence interval ( 0.65-1.98 ) .Conclusions:There is no significant differences between anterior temporal lobectomy and amydalohippocampectomy. No advantage were found in either surgery approach.
