ObjectivesThe survey aims to describe human immunodeficiency virus/sexual transmitted infections(HIV/STIs) related knowledge, attitudes, practice, migrant pattern and the prevalence of HIV/STIs amongst female sex workers(FSWs) and miners in Gejiu, Yunan province, And to analyze risk factors of HIV/STIs amongst FSWs and miners in this region.MethodsA cross-sectional study on HIV/STIs was conducted on 239 census sample FSWs and 526 convenience sample miners in Gejiu, Yunnan province form Dec. 2005 to Jan. 2006. Questionnaire survey was conducted by face-to-face interviews. Blood sample was collected to test HIV(Screened by enzyme-linked immunosorbent(ELISA) and affirmed by western blot(WB)), syphilis(Screened by RPR and affirmed by TPPA)) and herpes simplex virus-2(HSV-2) (by ELISA). Miners'Urine and FSWs'cervix secretion were collected to test Gonorrhea and Chlamydia based on PCR. FSWs'vaginal secretion was collected to test Trichomonas(test under microscope ). Urine sample from all the subject to test morphine using ACON MOP test paper.Results1. Survey among FSWs1.1. HIV prevalence was 18.6% overall, and 55.4% and 1.8% in drug users and non drug users, respectively. Multivariate logistic regress analysis indicate that drug use (OR=39.94) and frequent changing venue are main risk factors of HIV amongst FSWs. With increase of age, HIV infection rate is going up (OR=1.17).1.2.Total prevalence rate of 5 STIs is 74.9%. The prevalence of Syphilis, HSV-2, gonorrhea, Chlamydia, Trichomonas is 3.8%, 64.6%, 4.4%, 15.3%, and 4.8% respectively. Factors associated with STIs infection are HIV (OR=4.73) infection and condom usage (OR=0.46).1.3. 29.4% of subject infected two or more than two pathogen.1.4. 27.2% of persons self-reported a history of drug use, among which 90.8% reported a history of intravenous drug use. Condom use is difference between commercial sex(32.77%) and non commercial sex (76.16%)(χCMH2=136.3955,df=4,P<0.0001).1.5. 68.1% and 80.7% of participants have lived in this town for >1 year and≥0.5 year, respectively. 36.13% of participants have changed venues the latest year. 20.8% of participant work with two or more...
