Objective 1. To preliminarily study the intensity and seasonal and daily variation features of ultraviolet radiation in Ningxia plain area, so as to provide reliable data for future research work on ultraviolet radiation and its protection. 2. To observe the biological effects of solar ultraviolet radiation of different wavelengths on human melanocytes, so as define the harmful effects of ultraviolet radiation on skin and lay the basis for the development of new drags and cosmetics to resist the ultraviolet radiation. 3. To well know the current knowledge on the harmful effects of ultraviolet radiation and protection level in Ningxia groups, which will be beneficial for the public education, for guiding people to take the proper, effective and protective approaches against Ultraviolet harms and for the popularization of sun scream in future. Methods 1. From Feb.2004 to Jan.2005, by UVA and UVB ultraviolet radiation inspector, environmental ultraviolet radiation of different wavelength were monitored and analyzed in Ningxia plain area. 2. A375 melanoma cells were used as subjects radiated with different doses of UVA and UVB, in order to observe their biological effect on melanocyte cell breed, melanogenesis, cell cycle kinetics and apoptosis.3. Through questionnaires, surveys can be made about the conditions of harm to the different people of Ningxia area from ultraviolet radiation and of the protective awareness and measures from the people there. Results 1. The monitoring results show that the day variations of UVA and UVB in the Ningxia Plain area are of symmetry distribution. That is, the...
