Purpose: To investigate the expression of hsp70 in human age-related cataract lensepithelial cells, clarify the effect of abnormal expression of hsp70 on the formation ofage-related cataract. Methods: Two cases as one by the principle of the same gender and approximateage.68 cases of cataract and 8 cases of control in the end. 68 cases of cataract weredivided into three groups: cortical cataract, nuclear cataract and posterior subcapsularcataract. The expression of hsp70 was assayed using western bolt in the epitheliallayer of 23 cortical cataracts, 29 nuclear cataracts, 16 posterior subcapsular cataractsand 8 normal cases. Results: The expression of hsp70 was significantly higher in the LECs of cataractthan in the LECs of clear lens (P<0.01). Among the cataract group, the expression ofhsp70 was significantly higher in nuclear cataract than in cortical and posteriorsubcapsular cataract (P<0.01).Conclusions: The development of age-related cataract is correlated withover-expression of hsp70, age-related cortical cataract, nuclear cataract and posteriorsubcapsular cataract may possess a different pathogenesis.
