Considering the underdevelopment in the transdermal drug delivery (TDD) of traditional Chinese drug and the serious lack of pressure sensitive adhesives (PSA) for TDD application in our country, this thesis mainly studied the skin compatible hydrophilic PSA by mixing water soluble polymers with plastisizer. At the same time, the drug permeation and application of properties of the PSA in traditional Chinese drug pitches were evaluated.Based on hydrogen bond network, a kind of hydrophilic PSA was prepared by mechanical blending polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP), polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), glycerol and water. The composition, reaction condition, mechanical property and the drug permeation of the PSA were explored, by which the ratio of PVP/PVA/glycerol/water of the PSA with the best property was determined. The prepared PSA were proved to have the preferable mechanical property, skin compatibility and transdermal drug permeation, which could be used in TDD system. The water states in hydrophilic PSA were investigated by using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). It was found that the PVA molecular of a hydrogen-bond network was formed among PVP, PVA, water and glycerol, which could improve the adhesion strength and confine the water molecules into the network. Compared with PVA, PVP presented stronger interaction with water. Glycerol weakened the interaction between PVP and water. The stronger bonded water in the hydrogen-bond network contributed to the adhesive strength of the dry PSA, but the adsorbed water leaded to the decrease in 180°peel strength.A kind of hydrophilic PSA composed by PVP, hydroethylene cellulose (HEC), glycerol and water was also studied in this thesis. The results indicated that the hydrogen-bond network between HEC and PVP plastisized by glycerol and water showed good PSA property.
