we explored whether simvastatin could exert beneficial effect on ventricular fibrillation threshold in spontaneously hypertensive rat. Serum lipid, blood pressure(BP), ventricular fibrillation threshold (VFT), myocardial collagen volume fraction (CVF),left ventrical mass index (LVMI) of spontaneously hypertensive rats(SHR) treated with simvastatin for 12 weeks and of SHR untreated were measured. Compared with this two group, we found a significant increase of VFT (P<0. 001),a marked lower CVF (P =0.002) , a slight decrease of LVMI(P=0.062) . There was no significant difference of serum lipid and BP between two groups. On the basis of our fingings, we propose that simvastatin can increase VFT in SHR and reduce mortality and sudden cardiac death (SCD) in patients with hypertension.
