Objective To evaluate the effects of different ischemic ways and different ischemic time on rat kidneys, and to obtain the relative safe time of ischemic time. Methods 64 Male Wistar rat kidneys were divided into control group (group A) , continuous arterial ischemia 10 min group (group B) , continuous arterial ischemia 20 min group (group C) , continuous arterial ischemia 30 min group (group D) , continuous arterial ischemia 40 min group (group E) . continuous arteriovenous ischemia 10min group (group F) . continuous arteriovenous ischemia 20min group (group G) . continuous arteriovenous ischemia 30min group (group H) . Functional and morphologic changes and levels of MDA, SOD of the kidneys which suffered from different ischemia ways and different ischemia time were assessed .Results Functional indexes of the group B and F were similar to that of the control group. Group C,D,E,G and H showed renal dysfunction , BUN,Cr level increased significantly compared with the control group ( P < 0.01). Morphological findings showed that the groups B and F had lightest tubular performance after warm ischemia . The group H and E showed severe tubular performance. 24 hours after reperfusion , the levels of MDA, SOD were different significantly lower in group A compared with groups E and H ( P < 0.01) .Conclusions Under normal condition , continuous arterial ischemia over 20 min can result in renal dysfunction , continuous arterial ischemia over 30 min can lead to injuries to renal tissue compared with control group . In a given ischemic period , injuries arterial ischemia-reperfusion were much lower than that of arteriovenous ischemia-reperfusion.
