The thesis consists of two parts: the first part is about the study on theconstituents of Sarcandra glabra; the second part is about the study on itsfingerprint spectrum.The study on chemical constituents of the traditional Chinesemedicine Sarcandra glabra was reviewed in the thesis. Twelve compoundswere isolated and purified from the ethanol extract of the plant by columnchromatography (silica gel, sephadex LH-20, MCI-gel), high-speedcounter-current chromatography (HSCCC), recrystalization and etc. Theywere identified as:β-sitosterol, lignoceric acid, palmitic acid, isofraxidin,Caffeic acid, succinic acid, daucosterol, 4-hydroxy benzoic acid,3, 4-dihydroxybenzoic acid, eleutheroside B1, rutin, lupeol on the basis ofmodern spectroscopic methods (IR, UV, MS, 1D-NMR) along withauthentic samples or the data in literatures. Among them, lignoceric acidwas isolated from this plant for the first time.The method of preparative separation and purifying of isofraxidinfrom the crude extract of Sarcandra glabra was investigated. The result ofHSCCC with the two-phase solvent system composing of n-hexane-ethylacetate-methanol-water (35:65:35:65, v/v) was satisfying. The optimalmethod and condition of extracting the effective components including volatile oil and total flavonoid were also studied.The chromatography-digitized fingerprint spectrum of water-solublematerials of Sarcandra glabra was established by HPLC. We also tried tofind a method to establish the HSCCC fingerprint spectrum of Sarcandraglabra.Eleven batch materials of Sarcandra glabra in different seasons anddifferent growth year were collected and analyzed by HPLC. Totally thereare fourteen co-peaks. It has practical value to control the quality ofSarcandra glabra.
