Purpose: DWI,PWI,study of biologicalch aracteristics of brain tumor was performed to determine the nature , draw the border offumor, and to establish internal connection between DWI/PWI and histology/microvessel counting.Materials and Methods : 25 patients were used for this study. The brain of each patient was imaged with diffusionw eightedim aging(DWI) , and perfusiontoeighted imaging(PWI)。After the brains were operated, they were examined histologicaly using both hematoxylin and eosin(HE) and immunohistochemical taining for CD34 to mark endothelial cells. The tissue next to the tumor in each specimen was analyzed under light microscope;microvascular density (MVD)was counted in histological sections stained with CD34. Separate statistical comparisons of the tumor cellularity with the ADC values , and MVD with rCBV values. Results: On DWIs,the signal intensity in the solid portion of the toumor was hyperintense with respect to the contralateral white matter. Statistical discrepancies of the ADC values for both the solid tumor component and peritumoral region were present comparing high-grade brain tumor with low-grade brain tumor with contralateral white matter respectively(P<0.01).rCBV maps of tumors were with conspicuously inhomogenous distribution at High-grade brain tumor.statistical diference of the rCBV values was present in peritumoral regions at high-grade glioma compared to the solid tumor component,(P>0.05).Conclusion: Reduced ADC value for the solid tumor component is associated with malignancy of brain tumor on DWI.The rCBV values for the solid tumor on PWI is prominently correlated with histopathological MVD counting values, which can be regarded as a useful indicator of evaluation of tumoral microvessel in vivo. The combination of DWI and PWI features contributed to delineation of brain tumor, offering information not available with conventional MRI. This approach may enhance the assessment of brain tumor, providing useful information for guiding stereotactic biopsies, surgical resection and radiation treatment.
