Objective:to explore sthe manifestations of the subtpes of renal cell carcinoma on helical CT scan for improving the diagnostic accuracy to provide help of clinical treat protocol.Methods:Sixty-eight patients with RCC diagnosed by pathology underwent triphasic SCT examinations(unenhanced, corticomedullary, nephrographic, and excretory phase).Statistical analysis was executed by SPSS 11.0 software, significant level:α=0.05.Results:In the corticomedullary phase, enhancement of conventional renal carcinoma was stronger than other subtypes.Enhancement of conventional(84%)and papillary(74%)renal carcinomas were heterogeneous or predominantly peripheral. On the contary, enhancement of chromophobe renal carcinoma(69%)usually was homogeneous.More calcification was found in papillary(25%)and chromophobe(43%)renal carcinomas than in conventional renal carcinoma (12%).There were no renal perinephric tissue or venous invasion in chromophobe renal carcinoma. However,in conventional renal and papillary renal carcinoma, they both were much common. Conclusion:For the differentiation of the subtypes of renal cell carcinoma, degree of enhancement is the most valuable parameter;enhancement pattern, the presence or absence of calcification, and tumor-spreading patterns can serve as supplemental roles in the identification of the subtype of renal cell carcinoma.
