Objective:Through a study of CT findings and the corresponding results of operation and pathology,to investigate the specific CT findings of benign and malignant GIST,so as to give evidence on clinical therapy and follow-up.Materials and Methods:The CT imaging of 30 cases of GIST confirmed by operatively and pathologically were reviewed and analysed.Plain CT scanning was performed in all 30 cases,7 cases of benign GIST and 19 cases of malignant or potential malignant GIST performed enhancement. Two experienced doctors analysed the CT imaging of these cases, including its distribution, size, shape, growth pattern, central density, performance of enhancemene, metastasis, configuration, invasion of adjacent tissues, ulcers, calcifications. The statistic analyses were carried out by SPSS 13.0.The averages comparation between two group was dealed with t-test,and the rates compartion with Fisher exact probability method.Results.On 9 cases of benign GIST,the locations were stomach(8 cases),small bowel(1 cases). The CT features of its were included:predominating endophytic growth mainly(6/9), oval-shaped mass(9/9),<5cm in size(9/9),clear configuration(9/9),no lobulated margin(9/9), homogenous density(9/9),no invasion of adjacent tissues(9/9),small and shallow ulcers(3/9), homogenous enhancement(7/7).On 21 cases of malignant or potential malignant GIST,the locations were stomack(10 cases)with one cases of multiple tumor(2 lesions),small bowel(5 cases),colon(1 case),mesentery(4 cases),posterior peritoneum(1 case). The CT features of its were included:predominating exophytic growth(17/22),oval-shaped(9/22)or irregular(13/22) mass,>5cm in size(18/22),lobulated margin(19/22),clear(12/22)or unclear(10/22) configuration, heterogenous density(20/22),invasion of adjacent tissues(2/22),metastasis(2/21), small and shallow or large and deep ulcers(5/22),heterogenous enhancement(18/20),small vessels inside or outside it(9/20),small calcifications(4/22).The shape, configuration, lobulated margin, central density, enhancement pattern between benign and maligenant or potential maligenant tumor were statistically different(P<0.05),while no statistical difference was found in increased CT value(P>0.05).Conclusions:CT plays an important role in differential diagnosis of GIST.
