Objective:To explore the expression of Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and Aquaporin 4 (AQP4) in gliomas,then investigate the relationship among the expression of VEGF and AQP 4 ,pathological grading and degree of peritumoral edema on MRI,in order to clear out the molecular mechanisms of VEGF and AQP4 in the progression of peritumoral brain edema .Methods:â‘ By retrospective analysis of peritumoral edema grading on MRI of 26 gliomas proved by postoperative pathology,then we observed relationship between degree of preoperative peritumoral edema on MRI and postoperative pathological grading ;â‘¡Examined the expression of VEGF and AQP4 in 26 glioma tissues through immunity histochemistry method .Results:â‘ There is significant difference in the degree of peritumoral edema between the higher rank(WHOIII,IV) and the lower rank(WHOI,II) groups of gliomas(P<0.01),it was also found that its gradings was significantly enhanced with the increase of glioma malignancy;â‘¡The VEGF protein expression level was higher in malignant gliomas than those in low rank gliomas considerably,The difference had statistical significance(P<0.01);â‘¢The AQP4 protein expression was found in all gliomas, there is significant difference between the higher rank and the lower rank groups(p<0.05), it was also found that its expression increase with the malignancy of glioma;â‘£T he peritumoral edema were correlated significantly with VEGF and AQP4 expression level (P<0.05) determined by spearman corelation . Conclusion:â‘ The degree of peritumoral edema were correlated significantly with glioma malignancy ,its degree increases with the rank of glioma;â‘¡The expression of VEGF and AQP4 protein could be found in gliomas ,Its expression was significantly enhanced with the degree of glioma malignancy;â‘¢The expression level of VEGF and AQP4 in gliomas was certainly correlated with its peritumoral edema on MRI,VEGF and AQP4 may play an important role in the glioma edema;â‘£The degree of peritumoral edema on MRI could indirectly help to evaluate the malignant degree and prognosis of gliomas to a certain extend.
