Objective: in this study it was sought to evaluate the clinical value of colposcopy in the diagnosis of cervical lesions. Methods: colposcopy inspection and biopsy results were used to analyse the total 243 cervical lesions cases in gynocology department of first affiliated hospital of Xinjiang Medical University from March 1st to November 1st 2006. Results: (1)in our study histopathologically confirmed CIN cases were 28 (CINâ… 9, CINâ…¡12 ,CINâ…¢6 and CIS 1, respectively ),cervical cancer cases were 13;chronic cervicitis cases were 202;condyloma acuminata cases were 2;vagina residual polyp post hysterectomy case was 1.One case had one or several abnormal pictures of colposcopic inspection. the major colposcopic findings of the cervical cancer, CIN and chronic cervicitis were vascular abnormality, white epithelium and atypical punctate vascularity, respectively.(2) in this study the proportion of the patients with CIN and cervical cancer between the age of 31 to 40 were 57% and 46% respectively.(3) the sensitivity in colposcopic diagnosis of CIN was 68%, specificity was 93%, positive predictive value was 54.84%,negative predictive value was 94.81%,positive likelihood ratio was 9.71, negative likelihood ratio was 0.34 and accuracy was 89.71%. the sensitivity in colposcopic diagnosis of cervical cancer was 45% ,specificity was 96% positive predictive value was 40%,negative predictive value was 96.93%,positive likelihood ratio was 11.25, negative likelihood ratio was 0.57 and accuracy was 93.42% . Conclusion: colposcopy has significant value in cervical cancer, especially early diagnosis of CIN. biopsy under the colposcopy can improve diagnostic accuracy and screening rate of cervical lesions .
