Objective To study the changes and the mechanism of iron metabolism in the process of seasickness adaptation. And give the evaluation on the effects of iron intervention to the seasickness adaption. Methods The iron concentration of serum were measured by atomic absorption spectrophotometer. The expression of hepcidin mRNA was detected by RealTime PCR. The concentration of IL-6, IL-10 and TNF-a were measure by ELISA kit. The changes of iron concentration in serum and the time of seasickness adaptation were studied in the seasick iron intervention group. Results The concentration of serum iron were decreased significantly during the seasickness adaptation. The iron apparent absorption rate were decreased significantly. The expression of liver hepcidin mRNA were increased significantly. The serum IL-6 and IL-10 were increased significantly. The concentration of serum TNF-αwere no statistical significant. The serum iron concentration of the seasick iron intervention 7d group were significant higher than those of the seasick 7d group. The time of seasickness adaptation of the seasick iron intervention group were significant shorter than that of the seasick group. Conclusions The mechanism of decrease in serum iron concentration was found. It is maybe stress leads to the increasing of IL-6 and IL-10.It can lead to the increasing of liver hepcidin mRNA. The increasing of liver hepcidin mRNA can hinder the iron absorption. The chalybeate could significantly improve the concentration of serum iron and effective shortening the timeof seasickness adaptation.
