Objective: To observe the influence of schisandrone on the changes of learning and memory abilities and the expression of NF-κB and iNOS in the hippocampus of rats with Alzheimer-like disease and investigate the probably preventive and therapeutic effect of schisandrone on AD. Methods: The animal model of AD was established by Aβ25-35 stereotactic micro-injection into lateral cerebral ventricle of rats and the rats of schisandrone intervention group were administrated with schisandrone. After that, The changes of learning and memory abilities was detected by Morris water maze and the expression of NF-κB and iNOS in the Hippocampus were detected by immunohistochemistry. Results:Compared with AD model group,those receiving schisandrone treatment manifested alleviation of learning and memory impairment ( P<0.05). The expression of NF-κB and iNOS in the hippocampus of rats decreased obviously after administration of schisandrone (P<0.05). Conclusions: Schisandrone could suppress the oxidative stress and inflammatory reaction through a NF-κB signaling machamism, which suggested a protection from AD.
