The skin sebum secretion, water capacitance, pH values and TEWL always be used to describe the function of stratum corneum barrier, and they are the parameters standing for skin health. The stabilization of barrier depends on a balance between different parameters. We will study the physiological condition of the skin depended on the development of Noninvasive bioengineering methods. Objective: To quantitatively evaluated skin sebum secretion, water capacitance, PH values and TEWL of healthy female volunteers with non-invasive measurement and analyze their relationship between anatonic-sites and skin type. Methods: The skin sebum secretion, water capacitance, PH values ,TEWL in the forehead, eye rims, cheek front, cheek side and flexible forearm for 55 healthy female volunteers in Chengdu aged from 20 to 40 years old was measured using the Sebumeter?/Corneometer?/Skin-pH-Meter? (Courage Khazaka, Germany) and Tewameter? TM300(Courage Khazaka, Germany). Divided the 55 volunteers into 4 groups according to skin type, and 2 groups(the positive and negative group) according to the response of lactic acid stinging test. Other 52 volunteers with suspicious sensitive skin accepted water capacitance measurement and lactic acid stinging test. Results: The skin sebum secretion, water capacitance, PH values and TEWL of measured anatomic-sites and skin type were different, especially the skin sebum secretion. The group that positive to lactic acid stinging test had higher TEWL measurement and lower water capacitance measurement. Skin sebum secretion and water capacitance were statistically positively relevant (P < 0.05), but the skin PH values and sebum secretion, TEWL and water capacitance were statistically negatively relevant(P < 0.05).Conclusion: Non-invasive evaluation can explore the changes of skin sebum secretion, water capacitance, PH values in different anatomic-sites and skin type, quantitatively reveal their relevance. TEWL was more sensitive than other parameters to reflect the skin barrier function. We can study the physiological condition of the skin using Noninvasive bioengineering methods.
