ObjectiveTo investigate the effects of inflating the cuff of endotraeheal tube on tracheal mueosa in child.Methods64 healthy rabbits(4-5 months)were randomly divided into 2 groups according to the pressure of the cuff and time:A:24 healthy rabbits:â… (15 mmHg for 2,4 h),â…¡(25 mmHg for 2,4 h),â…¢(2 h by 15 mmHg disinflat 10,20,30min after reinflatly followed by 2 hours'reinflation)andâ…£(control).B:40 healthy rabbits:â… (15 mmHg for 2,4 h),â…¡(25 mmHg for 2,4 h),â…¢(2 h by 15 mmHg disinflat 10,20,30min after reinflatly followed by 2 hours'reinflation)andâ…£(control).ResultsCompared with the control group,abnormal structure of the trachea was not seen in the group with 2 hours endotracheal tube cuff inflated to 15mmHg,20min disinflat and 2 hours reinflate and 20min disinfiat and 2 hours reinflate again,except slight mitoehondrial swelling of eiliated epithelium cells.After 21 days,the above damages return to the original shape.Over 4 hours of tube cuff inflation to 15mmHg and 2 hours to 25mmHg,histological study showed the presence of congestion,epithelial degeneration,necrosis,exfoliation,acute inflammation,hemorrhage of mesenchyma of the mucosa of trachea.After 21 days,the above damages did not return to normal. The damages were more severe along with the time of tube cuff inflation.ConclusionDamages of trachea about rabbit were minimal when the intracuff pressure was maintained for 2 hours by 15mmHg,and the damages on the trachea could be greatly decreased if the tube was disinflated for 20 min or more once two hours.
