In mouth rehabilitation, impression material is a clinical necessity and one of the very important materials for prosthetic quality. The contaminating of oral impression is also a prevalent problem in clinical cases at the present time. Since the oral impression gets in direct touch with saliva or even the blood of a patient in making process, its surface may carry a large amount of pathogenic bacteria. Though irrigation by running water can decrease contaminating, the plaster model poured without special disinfection will be the infection source of Hepatitis B virus, AIDS or other infectious diseases and be a possibility of pestiferousness. Therefore the problem of impression material disinfection draws great attention of the oral medical workers. At present, the problem of oral impression disinfection is concerned in every countries and the research on disinfectant methods has been carried out extensively. The current clinical methods include spraying disinfectant method, the ultraviolet ray to activate the nitrogen, argon plasma jet method, RGD and direct harmony, some of which has not a good disinfecting effect or will affect the impression quality, while others are too complicated in operation to spread in clinical use and to achieve the normalization of oral sterile operation. Meanwhile, it is proved that the disinfecting effect of the soak method is comparatively affirmative. At the same time, a better disinfecting effect will be achieved and cross-infection be controlled effectively by altering the density of disinfectant solution and soak time. This research uses IMPRSEEPT---a new kind of soak disinfectant solution---to disinfect oral cavity impression material, evaluates its disinfecting effect and its impact on physical performance of the impression materials, and thus provides experimental evidence to clinical practice. The experiments indicated that:1. The antibiosis ratio of the new soak disinfectant solution IMPRSEEPT reached over 99% against blood streptococcus and hay infusion bacteria. In addition, IMPRSEEPT conducted powerful antibiosis performance against common oral bacteria strains on the impression material.2. IMPRSEEPT adopted the disinfecting method that ADA suggests. The impression material contaminating Hepatitis B virus serum was sterilized under the condition of taking a model in oral cavity. Examined using Elisa, virus on the impression material was completely inactivated after sterilization in IMPRSEEPT disinfectant solution.3. In study about the impact on impression material wettability, it was showed that the wettability of the impression material after disinfection was increased owing to surface active material (SAM) in IMPRSEEPT, comparing with glutaral disinfectant solution.4. The dimensional stability of the impression material was measured using direct method. The experiment data showed that IMPRSEEPT won't affect the dimensional stability of the impression material within the effective time of soak disinfection. Accordingly, IMPRSEEPT can be used for clinical impression disinfecting. In conclusion, all the above-mentioned experiment results indicate that IMPRSEEPT has an absolute advantage over the previous disinfectant solution. That is IMPRSEEPT can be used for a great majority of average impression materials, while the latter can only applies to specific impression material.
