Objective: To explore the impossible mechanism of the change of thyroid function generating in hyperemesis gravidarum women. Methods: Collected the serum of 25 hyperemesis gravidarum women in first trimester and 24 normal pregnant women in first trimester and measured the concentrations of FT3, FT4, thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH),β-human chorionic gonadotropin(β-hCG) and tumor necrosis factorα(TNF-α). Cultured thyrocytes and measured the expressions of 131I uptake rate and hNIS mRNA and protein which being the results of hCG and TNF-αacting on thyrocytes. Results: (1) The serum concentrations of FT3,FT4 in hyperemesis gravidarum women were higher than those of in normal pregnant women and the differences were not significant (P>0.05); the concentrations of TSH in hyperemesis gravidarum women were lower than those of in normal pregnant women and the difference was significant (P<0.01); the concentrations ofβ-hCG and TNF-αin hyperemesis gravidarum women were higher than those of in normal pregnant women and the differences were significant (P<0.01). (2) hCG could increase the expressions of hNIS mRNA and protein and enhance 131I uptake rates but TNF-αcould inhibit these effects. Conclusion: Hyperemesis gravidarum women can show the change of biochemistric indeices of hyperthyroidism , the serum concentrations ofβ-hCG and TNF-αhave significant changes and may play a role in the changes of thyroid function through hNIS.
