Objective To investigate the effect of optic nerve sheath incision decompression(ONSD) on optic nerve incomplete injuries.Method Ninety-one SD rats were divided into normal control crush control and surgical groups. The retinal ganglion cells ,Bcl-2 and Bax positive cells were calculated at day 3 ,7 ,15 after crush respectively .Results The number of Bax positive cells in surgical group were less then those in crush group significantly (p<0.05), while the number of retinal ganglion and Bcl-2 positive cells in surgical groups were more than those in crush group at day 3,7,15 after crush significantly(p<0.05).Conclusion Optic nerve sheath incision decompression(ONSD) can improve the survival of RGC through up-regulation of Bcl-2 gene expression and down-regulation of Bax gene expression after optic nerve crush.
