| The people drinking excessly are becoming more and more with the elevating living standard and the increasing of social communication. The proportion of inpatient with alcoholism has the significantly increasing tendency in recent years. Alcoholism has become one of important diseases influencing quality of life among of cardiovascular diseases and cancer. The injury of stomach, liver, kidney and the system of cardiovascular associated with alcoholism was paid closed attention in the past, however, the researchers think highy of the injury by ethanol to nervous tissue in present. Finding out agents to use treatment brain injury induced by alcoholism is becoming an very important medical issue.Salvia miltiorrhizal is a kind of Chinese traditional drugs used for several hundred years. The extract of Salvia miltiorrhiza includes water-soluble components and lipophilic components. Tanshinone as lipophilic components includes tanshinoneI, tanshinone II and tanshinone III. The content and activity of tanshinone IIA is the highest among of lipophilic components. Amounts of research showed that tanshinone IIA has the effect of anti-infection, anti-tumor and ameliorating cerebral ischemia, but the report about protective effect of tanshinone IIA on brain injury inducing by alcoholism was very few. The study is to investigate the effect of sodium tanshinone IIA sulphonate (STS) on brain injury inducing by alcoholism. The Wistar rats were randomly divided into six groups: control group, model group, vitaminB12 group and STS groups with different dosage (10mg/kg, 20mg/kg, 40mg/kg). The model of chronic alcoholism was developed by administrating 36% ethanol by i.g for 5 weeks. The ability of action and the content of SOD,GSH and MDA in plasma and tissue homogenate of brain were measured. It was found that STS can inhibit the decreasing in content or anti-oxidative activity of SOD,GSH and the producing of MDA. The results showed that STS can enhance the ability of antioxidation of brain injury rats induced by alcoholism. Meanwhile, histopathologic examination to brain suggested that the hippocampus and neurons of cerebrum and cerebellum were proteced by injecting STS.In conclusion, STS has the protective effects on brain injury induced by alcoholism. The mechanism was probably owning to antioxidation activity and reducing death of neuron. |
