ObjectiveThe experiment was to find the differences of the biocompatibility between the Medpor under ultraviolet irradiation(study group) and the unsettled Medpor(contrast group) in rabbits'auricular cartilage and to discuss the affection on the biocompatibility of Medpor irradiation by ultraviolet.MethodsThe animal model was established as follows: 12 healthy Japanese big ear white rabbits , female and male disregarded, were divided into two groups stochastically. 6 rabbits were embedded the Medpor under ultraviolet irradiation (study group) and the others were embedded unsettled Medpor into auricular cartilage defective interstice(contrast group). Using the standard method of measuring the value of total hemolytic complement levels (CH50) in 3 days before the operation and 1, 3, 7, 14, 21, 30, 60 and 90 days after the operation, the healing state of receptor sites was observed and recorded. After 90 days, the gross and histopathological examination were observed to evaluate the biocompatibility of the above biomaterials.ResultsThe tendency of the value's changing of total hemolytic complement levels(CH50) was different between the two groups and that of the study group was more stable. The healing state of Group Medpor under ultraviolet irradiation was better than Group unsettled Medpor. Gross observation showed that the combination of material and organization around which was noncohesive and jettisonable readily. But the study group has a closer relationship with surrounding tissues and wasn't to separate from which. Histopathological observation showed that more tissues, even big blood vessels, grew into Medpor holes under ultraviolet irradiation and ranked regularity. One of 6 histological sections can be seen some cartilage cellules were hyperplastic and differentiated. But a small quantity of fibrous tissue was seen growing into the Medpor holes of the study group and arranged noncohesively and not big blood vessels was seen infiltrating around lymphocytes and eosinophils.ConclusionThe present study suggests that the ultraviolet irradiation can promote the biocompatibility of Medpor and the growth of surrounding tissues. Ultraviolet irradiation on Medpor before embedded in organism maybe can preclude the neopathy.
