Traditionally, gait evaluation of patients is based on doctors'own experience qualitatively or in macroscopic way. Although the measuring technology progress greatly impelled the gait analysis technology development, and makes the gait data more accurate, the gait data are very difficult to be applied directly for they are too numerous and disorderly. It has been an important topic in biomedical engineering that how to analyze, process, explain the gait data and to provide a simple effective gait evaluation method for clinic diagnosis. Supported by NSFC (NO.30370684: Study on the Methods of Human Motion Evaluation), and based on the gait data of 10 healthy persons and 20 patients, gait quality index (GQI) were studied further and the valuable scope of application of the GQI method were defined. Then a radar chart method for the evaluation of gait pathology was designed. Finally, the contrast study of the present evaluation indices was done. The major work is following.1. Chosen 15 key phases in a gait cycle to take the GQI application study. Evaluated 8 patients by SIAS, and evaluated whose knee and ankle joints in the 15 key phases by GQI. The correlation coefficient between GQI score and SIAS score shows that, the knee joint is the best choice to make the GQI evaluation, and shows there are 8 selective preference stances in swing and its nearby phases to make the GQI evaluation.2. Designed a radar chart method which based on the knee-8 stances-gait quality index. The evaluation of the 20 patients by the radar chart method shows that, firstly, the radar chart area is correlated with the walking speed (r=0.71), the area is an adequate index for evaluation. Secondly, the different patterns of gait pathology, such as circle gait, knee flexion and knee stiffness, can be distinguished by their different radar shape3. Studied phase symmetry index (IDps), 3 gait symmetry indices based on Fitts'Law (IDsp, IDspρ, IDspθ), walking speed (v) and radar chart area index (IDra). It was found that the IDspρindex could not tell the difference between healthy person and patient, and found that the subordinate relationship between the other 5 indices. In conclusion, the GQI method was improved and a radar chart method was designed, and the systemic contrast study of the normal macroscopical indices were done. The above work is helpful to the clinic evaluation of the patients'condition and their rehabilitation consequence.
