Objective We examined association between Red Cell Distribution With(RDW)and chronic heart failure prognosis. Method Totally 688 patients with CHF were enrolled and measured RDW,hemoglobin,HCT,MCV,creatinine, uric acid, sodium etc. Multivariable logistic analysis was used to assess the effect of RDW on mortality. Result The RDW gradually heightened along with NYHA class heightened. There were significant difference between NYHA classâ…£,â…¢and classâ…¡(P<0.01). The level of hemoglobin gradually descended along with NYHA class heightened. There were significant difference between NYHA classâ…£and classâ…¡(P<0.05). Multivariable logistic analysis showed that RDW remained as an independent predictor of the mortality when the influences of the age, gender , basic cause of the disease , diabetes , cardiac function classification , serum creatinine , etc. were adjusted. Conclusion RDW is closely correlated with chronic heart failure prognosis.
