Objective:To study the sonography method and the ultrasonic sonograms of the normal sublingual gland. To investigate the ultrasonic characteristics of sublingual gland diseases.Methodes:Two hundred and twenty seven cases with normal sublingual gland and fourteen cases with abnormal were examined by percutaneous suprahyoid real-time high-frequency ultrasound and color Doppler ultrasound.Parallelly and sequentially scanning on the area of suprahyoid, the transverse and longitudinal sectiones of the sublingual gland were obtained and measured. By this method, 14 cases with sublingual gland diseases were diagnosed. Two groups of measurement data were analyzed by T test, three or more groups by analysis of variance. Enumeration data was analyzed by X2 test. If P<0.05, the differences of them were notable. Results:The 2D and color Doppler flow images could be displayed clearly on every case. The widths of the head and tail of the right sublingual glands were (9.56±1.93) mm and (4.65±0.78) mm, the thickness of them were (15.30±2.47)mm and(5.41±1.38)mm, respectively. The length of them were (27.43±5.07)mm. Besides, the widths of the head and tail of the left sublingual glands were (9.45±1.84) mm and (4.93±1.11) mm, the thickness of them were (15.31±2.47)mm and(5.60±1.54)mm, and the length of them were (28.07±4.38)mm. Fourteen cases of sublingual gland diseases were diagnosed by ultrasonography, and they had their own distinguishing features. The peak flow rate and RI of right artery of sublingual gland were (0.16±0.08) m/s and (0.74±0.14). The left of them were (0.19±0.15) m/s and (0.73±0.11). The mean flow rate of right and left vein of sublilngual gland were (0.06±0.07)m/s and (0.07±0.09)m/sConclusions:Using the method of percutaneous suprahyoid real-time high-frequency ultrasound and color Doppler ultrasound, the ultrasonic images of the main normal structures of the sublingual gland were clearly displayed.Fourteen cases with abnormal showed their own characteristic images, and the diagnosis was agreeded with pathological results. The research results mentioned in this paper will provide an important ultrasonic anatomic basis for ultrasound diagnosis of the located lesions of the sublingual gland.
