Radiotherapy is one of the main therapeutic tools in lung cancer treatments. The aim is to give a high dose to the tumor and to reduce the radiation injury of normal tissue. A better define of the tumor target to keep the target in planning beams and keep the prescriptive dose to defined treating areas is needed. Image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT) uses advanced imaging technology in every key step of CT simulation, treatment planning and it is the key to reducing and eliminating the therapeutic uncertainties ultimately. This article will give an overview of IGRT techniques and their progress in lung cancer treatments.
