Purpose:To probe the relations between the mental health status of chronic asymptomatic HBV carriers (AsC) and their coping style.Methods:Three hundred chronic hepatitis B carriers were included in our study group, All the subjects were evaluated by self-made questionnaire, Symptom Checklist 90 (SCL-90) and Coping style questionnaire. SCL-90 was adopted, which was composed of 9 elements: somatization, obsessive-compulsive, interpersonal sensitivity, depression, anxiety, hostility, phobic anxiety, paranoid ideation, psychoticism. it based on five rank scoring method of 1-5 were divided into mild, moderate and severe grades. The coping style questionnaire drawn up by Xiao, The scale included 6 subscales about solutions, rationalizations, seeking help, self-reproach, illusions and avoidance, etc.Results:1. SCL-90 outcomes: There were 41 subjects (13.7%) presented mild mental problem, 25(8.3%) moderate and 12(4%) severe. The proportion of total score of the symptom checklist-90(SCL-90) over 160 was 26%. The total mean score of SCL-90 and scores of all subscales in AsC were higher than that of the national norm(P<0.01), the first 4 factors all were somatization, anxiety,hostility and psychoticism.2. According to gender, age, marital status, education level, occupation, the sources of patients, means of payment of medical cost, Course of Disease and family history of HBV. There were significant difference in the total scores of SCL-90 and some SCL-90 various symptom factors(P<0.05). Mental health of married woman, farmer, Patients were 20 to 39 years, patients with fee for service, rural patients and Patients's disease course was greater than or equal to 15 years had bad mental health health. Multiregressive analysis revealed that the most important factors affecting the total score of SCL-90 were education level, Course of Disease family history of HBV and the sources of patients.3. The frequency order of using the coping strategies was: problem solving, seeking help, illusion, retreat, rationalization and self-accusation. And Significant differences existed in choice-solutions among male and female, male was likely to using solutions when faced with pressures. AsC of Farmer, married, education level below primary school and 40 years or older adopted passive coping style.4. Solving problem and seeking support was negatively correlated with all factor score of scl-90. Self-accusation, fantasy, retreat and rationalization was positively correlated with all factor score of scl-90. Multiregressive analysis revealed that the most important factors affecting the total score of SCL-90 were self-accusation and solving problem.Conclusion:The mental health level of AsC was lower, effective individuation intervention measures should be taken to enhance the level of psychological health for them. It is necessary for medical staff to strengthen the guidance for AsC on their coping modes , to prevent from psychological disorders , and to keep psychological health of them.
