Lung cancer is a kind of tumor with short life. But it is very difficult to be diagnosed early in the clinical. Objective To study the serum mass congcentration of Thymidine Phosphorylase in patients with lung cancer and judge whether this detection has clinical significance or not. Methods Serum mass concentration of TP were measured by using an enzyme-linked immunoadsorbent assay in 35 patients with lung cancer (lung cancer group) and 21 patients with some other pulmonary diseases (control group). All of patients with lung cancer were confirmed by histopathology or cytopathology and did not have any anticancer treatment. Results Serum mass concentration of TP in lung cancer group(6.84±4.49ng/ml) were significantly higher than those in control group(3.01±1.51ng/ml), P <0.05. There were no significant differences among the different clinical stages (P >0.05) and among those with metastasis and without metastasis (P >0.05). The differences between NSCLC and SCLC reached the statistical significance, P <0.05. Conclusion The serum mass concentration of TP were significantly elevated in patients with lung cancer and so could be possibly used in clinical diagnosis of lung cancer as a new tumor marker.
