BackgroundMyelosuppressive reaction is one of the adverse drug reactions that usually seen in chemotherapy. It can lead to severe and refractory infection, blood poisoning, viscera blooding, etc, which makes it the main reason that causes antineoplastic drugs dose reduction or even chemotherapy interruption. Most of the time, it's treated by CSF. The effect is obvious, but it can bounce or recrudesce, may brings some side-effect, and the price is expensive too.The motherland medical science thinks, tumor is mainly caused by three factors: self-weakness of the body, the "tumor toxin" , and blood stasis. When used to cure tumor, anticancer drugs can be considered as foreign poison. When the anticancer drugs kill sick cells, it can also aggravate the illness caused by the "tumor toxin" and blood stasis, and leads to the Zang-fu organ, Qi and blood damnification. The kidney, spleen and stomach hurt most badly in this illness process, and finally bring on multiform pathological changes. So blood stasis is one of the key factors besides self-weakness and the "tumor toxin" . Because of these reasons, the traditional Chinese medicine method about "invigorating the spleen and kidney and removing blood stasis" therapy has the theory foundation.ObjectiveThis research is to study the protection effects on patients with myelosuppressive reaction after chemotherapy by the TCM method about invigorating the spleen and kidney and removing blood Stasis, and to elementally open out the TCM therapeutical principle of myelosuppressive reaction chemotherapy.MethodThis research brings into 80 cases according to the diagnosis criterion. They're divided into 4 groups stochasticly to compare. The day before they have chemotherapy, they began to take respectively different Chinese traditional medicine that contains distinct TCM therapeutical principle for 21days. Compare their former and after chemotherapy blood cell laboratory examine, TCM symptoms, toxic side-effects, etc.ResultLeukopenia occurrence had no significant difference among the four groups. However, the group treated by the TCM method about invigorating the spleen and kidney and removing blood Stasis had milder WBC/ANC reduction, higher WBC/ANC minimum , and better TCM symptom improvement, these differences are significant (P<0.05). The toxic side-effects are mild and reversible and patients can well tolerate them.ConclusionThe TCM method about invigorating the spleen and kidney and removing blood Stasis is more effective for myelosuppressive reaction after chemotherapy. It can be studied more in the clinic for the development the myelosuppressive reaction TCM treatment.
