ObjectiveTo observe clinical therapeutic effect on knee osteoarthritis(KOA)with acupucture to regulate viscera function combined with blood-letting therapy and to investigate the safty and efficacy of the treatment.MethodsSeventy cases were randomly divided into a treatment group(n=35)and a control group(n=35).The treatment group were treated with acupucture at Ganshu(BL18),Shenshu(BL23)and Ashi acupoints, once every other day and three times a week, combined with blood-letting threrapy once a week. The control group were treated with routine acupuncture at Xiyan(EX-LE5),Liangqiu(ST34), Xuehai(SP10),Yanglinquan(GB34),Zusanli(ST36),and Ashi acupoints, once every other day, three times a week. Both groups received four weeks' s treatment.Their clinical therapeutic effects were eveluated before and after the treatment according to the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index(WOMAC),related to pain, stiffness and physical function three aspects.Results1.Various indexes of WOMAC were significantly improved in both groups after the treatment(P<0.01),which showed that both two groups could relieve the symptoms and signs related to knee osteoarthritis. There were statistically significant differences between the two groups in improvement of phisical function and alleviation of pain(both P<0.05),except the stiffness index(P>0.05),and it indicated that the treatment group was superior to the control group in relief of pain and the improvement of physical function.2.Compared to the clinical therapeutic effect, the total effective rate and the controlled and remarkable effective rate was 93.55%and 71.00% respectively in the treatment group, while 90.63%and 56.25%respectively in the control group, both without significant difference between the two groups(P>0.05).ConclusionThis therapy has obvious and definite therapeutic effect on Knee Osteoarthritis. It is superior to routine acupucture therapy especially in the alleviation of pain and the improvement of phisical function, and is also safe and feasible.Tonifing liver and kidney, promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis could be the main principles to the treatment of KOA.
