Objective To examine the expression of VEGF in glioma, and investigate the relevance of VEGF and several clinical factors with angiogenesis and prognosis of glioma. Methods Retrospective review 56 cases with complete records and histological conformed glioma treated in neurosurgery department of second affiliated hospital of Zhejiang university college of medical from 2003-2006.1 year survival rates was analyzed by logistic regression analysis. Results The expression of VEGF was significantly different between low grade(WHOⅠ-Ⅱ)and high grade(WHOⅢ-Ⅳ)glioma(P<0.05).1 year survival rates of glioma patients is 67.9%,include 23 low grade patients(60.5%)and 15 high grade patients (39.5%),which has significantly difference. The patients' age,the WHO grade of glioma, tumor resections cope, the preoperative KPS,VEGF expression were correlated with prognosis by univariate analysis(p=0.05).The results of multivariate logistic analysis showed that the WHO grade of glioma, tumor resections cope and VEGF expression were significantly correlated with prognosis. Conclusions The expression of VEGF were correlated with glioma angiogenesis and malignant degree. The WHO grade of glioma, tumor resections cope and VEGF expression were prognostic markers of glioma.
