Application Of Ordinary And One-Way Skin Expander In Faciocervical Dilation

Objective: To compare the therapeutic efficacy between one-way and ordinary skin expander in faciocervical dilation, and investigate the quality when applying in clinical application; Such can provide a novel basis when choosing skin expander in clinical medicine, so the achievement ratio of the operation is increasing and the subsequent complication is decreasing.Methods: 126 patients with faciocervical disease treated by skin expander in our department from January 2000 to September 2007 were reviewed retrospectively, 60 cases are male and 66 female, they are aged from 9.5 to 52 and the average is 21.5. All the cases are divided into two groups according to the type of the skin expander, 75 cases in the one-way skin expander group and 51 cases in the ordinary skin expander group. We review the therapeutic efficacy by the time and result of dilation and also complication. After the retrospectively review, statistical analysis on the results was carried out.Results: The one-way skin expander is superior to the ordinary skin expander, according to the decrease of time, times and complication of the dilation. The therapeutic efficacy is divided into three grade according to the standardization. In the one-way skin expander group, 64 cases are well curing, 16 cases are notablely curing and 11 cases are effectively curing, the rate of well curing and notablely curing is 85.3%; in the ordinary skin expander group, 31 cases are well curing, 11 cases are notablely curing and 20 cases are effectively curing, the rate of well curing and notablely curing is 60.8%. The aforesaid results showed a significant difference between the two groups(P<0.05).There was no significant difference of Two set of case complication occurrence rate.Conclusion: The clinical application of one-way skin expander in treating faciocervical disease shows great superiority to the ordinary skin expander, because it can decrease the time, times and complication of the dilation. The therapeutic efficacy shows that using one-way skin expander in dilation is really a safe and effective method.
