The object of this research is normal neonates or children and neonates or children who suspiciously leukoencephalopathy by clinical manifestation or abnormal long T2-WI signal at white matter, to study quantitative ADC values of Diffusion-Weighted Imaging using Siemens 3.0T MRI.Objective: To investigate the characteristics and regularity of parietal lobe brain white matter ADCav values of normal neonates and children of different age groups, establish the ADCav values of normal brain of neonates or children , and provide the objective evidences for the clinical application and study. To investigate the characteristics of parietal lobe brain white matter ADCav value of abnormal neonates and children who with clinical symptom of leukodystrophy or show any abnormal long T2-WI signal at white matter. To sdudy the abnormality of DWI and the change of ADCav values have value in delineating the injury degree of brain in the early phase. Methods: 210 healthy or unhealthy neonates or children's MR imaging were received. All of them underwent routine MRI scans and EPI-DWI, and ADC imaging were reconstructed on workstation. Six ROIs were selected at the white matter of cormu posterious ventriculi lateralis circumferentis for each object. The clinical manifestation were collected for each other. Results: The ADCav values of normal neonates and children show negatively exponentially correlation with age (r= - 0.828, P= 0.000).The ADCav values of the same region are equal in both sides parietal lobe of normal neonates and children(P =0.613) . The difference of ADCav values of parietal lobe brain in normal neonates and children between male and female did not reach statistically significant (P =0.786). The difference of ADC values of normal neonates and neonates with clinical manifestation and neonates with abnormal long T2-WI signal did not reach statistically significant(P=0.059),but comes to normal children and children with clinical manifestation and children with abnormal long Hi-T2-WI signals(age range from 1 month to 15years),the difference of ADC values has statistically significant (second group , P=0.011; third group , P=0.009;fourth group ,P=0.019; fifth group ,P=0.018; sixth group ,P=0.001).Conclusion: The ADCav values of normal neonates and children may reflect the growth process of the myelin of white matter's. The change of the ADCav values is earlier than the change of conventional signal of MRI. It is preferred in early discovery of leukoencephalopathy and delineating the injury degree of brain.
