Objective: To investigate the degree of the fixed denture patients' satisfaction, and analyze the relationships between the quality of the fixed denture, the patients' socio-demographic characteristics, expectation, personality and the patients' satisfaction. Methods: In this study, 96 patients who received fixed denture in the Prosthodontics Department of the stomatology clinic of 2nd Xiangya Hospital, Central South University are selected as participants. Using Individual Data List and questionnaires (the quality of fixed denture questionnaire, Satisfaction Questionnaire, Expectation Questionnaire and 16PF Questionnaire) to assist us to study the patients' satisfaction and the relationship between it and the personality traits. Results: 1. The patients' general satisfaction is about 75%. The patients' satisfaction towards "avoid of food impaction" and "aesthetic effect" are significant lower than other aspects (F=7.628, p=0.000). 2. Females' satisfaction is significant higher than males' (t=-4.715, p<0.05), the satisfaction of patients with higher income is significant higher than those with lower income (F=11.894, p<0.05), and the satisfaction of patients who live in the country is significant lower than those who live in the village, town or city (H=19.396, p<0.05). 3. The quality of fixed denture is positive correlated with the patients' satisfaction (r=0.579, p=0.000). 4. There is no statistical relationship between the patients' satisfaction and expectation (r=-0.101, p=0.326). 5. There is statistical relationship between 16PF and the patients' satisfaction: O and Q4 are negative correlated with their general satisfaction (F=15.566, P=0.000); except the sense of stability, some different personality traits are correlated with other aspects of patients' satisfaction. 6. There is statistical relationship between 16PF and the patients' expectation: C, H, M, N, O and Q2 are positive correlated with the general expectation, however F, G, Q1 and Q4 are negative correlated with it (F=13.551, p=0.000); except the sense of stability and comfort, some different personality traits are correlated with other aspects of patients' expectation. Conclusions: 1. There are statistical differences among the specific aspects of patients' satisfaction. Some factors of socio-demographic characteristics can influence the patients' satisfaction. The quality of fixed denture is positive correlated with the patients' satisfaction, however, there is no statistical relationship between the patients' satisfaction and expectation. 2. The relationship between the personality traits of fixed denture patients and their satisfaction and expectation do exist. Meanwhile, the specific expectation and satisfaction is influenced by different personality traits.
