Objective:1 Through cardiopulmonary exercise testing(CPET) and standard lung function test in the no symptoms smokers(smoking group) and the healthy non-smokers(control group), we aimed to observe changes of the maximal work(Wmax), the maximal volume of oxygen uptake(VO2max), the maximal kilogram weight volume of oxygen uptake(VO2max/kg), VO2max/VO2max pred%, VO2max/VO2max pred% in the anaerobic threshold(AT) or VO2max AT /VO2max pred%, the oxygen pulse(VO2/HR), VO2/HR pred%, the maximal campaign shortness of breath index(DImax), the breathe frequency(BF), the breathe reserve(BRmax%), the maximal volume of carbon dioxide(VCO2max), the maximal minute ventilation volume(VEmax), the ventilation equivalent for CO2 in AT(EqCO2AT), the ventilation equivalent for O2 in AT(EqO2AT) and forced vital capacity(FVC), forced expiratory volume at the first second(FEV1), FEV1/FVC% and the maximal ventilation volume(MVV), and to explore the effect of smoking for cardiac and lung function. 2 Content of matrix metalloproteinase-9(MMP-9), the tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-1(TIMP-1), vitamine E andβ-Carotene in the serum was detected, we aimed to observe their changes and to explore the effect of smoking for cardiac and lung function from mechanism and to provide theory foundation of prevention and treatment in the early of COPD.Methods:From healthy body testing in the public serving persons of ShiJia zhuang in the healthy body testing center of second hospital of HeBei Medical University from April third 2006 to Argust twenty-ninth 2006 ,we choised three hundred male people , two hundred are no symptoms smokers and one hundred are healthy non-smokers. Twenty persons were choised randomly from two groups respectively and forty persons were tested CPET and standard lung function and Content of MMP-9, TIMP-1, vitamine E andβ-Carotene in the serum.Results:1 Standard lung function: FVC, FEV1, FEV1/FVC% and MVV of smoking group were lower than that control group , but there were no statistical significance between two groups(P>0.05).2 CPET: Wmax , VO2max, VO2max/VO2maxpred%, VO2maxAT/VO2maxpred% , VO2max/kg and VO2/HR of smoking group were lower than that control group, but there were no statistical significance between two groups(P>0.05);VO2/HRpred% of smoking group was lower than that control group(P=0.0546); BRmax%, VCO2max and VEmax of smoking group were lower than that control group, but there were no statistical significance between two groups(P>0.05); BF ,DImax, EqCO2AT and EqO2AT of smoking group were higher than that control group, but there were no statistical significance between two groups(P>0.05).3 Correlative coefficient(r) between smoking index and VO2max/kg was -0.5966; r between MMP-9 and MMP-9/TIMP-1 with FEV1/FVC% was -0.5053 and -0.5020; r between vitamine E and BRmax% was 0.5485; r between BRmax% and MMP-9 was -0.6304; r between BRmax% and MMP-9/TIMP-1 was -0.6458; r between MMP-9/TIMP-1 and vitamine E with MMP-9 was 0.9871 and -0.4624.4 The changes of MMP-9, TIMP-1 and MMP-9/TIMP-1 in the serum: MMP-9 of smoking group was higher than that control, but there was no statistical significance between two groups(P>0.05); TIMP-1 of smoking group was lower significantly than that control, and there was statistical significance between two groups(P<0.05); MMP-9/TIMP-1 of smoking group was higher than that control, but there was no statistical significance between two groups(P>0.05).5 The changes of vitamine E andβ-Carotene in the serum: vitamine E of smoking group was lower significantly than that control, and there was statistical significance between two groups(P<0.01);β-Carotene of smoking group was lower significantly than that control, and there was statistical significance between two groups(P<0.01).6 According to ten years was one age stage, we analysed smoking group and control group at one age stage. TIMP-1, vitamine E andβ-Carotene between smoking group and control group respectively has statistical significance(P<0.05) at the maximal smoking index; onlyβ-Carotene between smoking group and control group has statistical significance(P<0.05) at the middle smoking index; FVC and Wmax of smoking group were lower significantly than that control, and there were statistical significance between two groups(P<0.05) at the minimal smoking index.Conclusions:1 Lung ventilation function change slightly on the no syndromes smokers.2 Cardiopulmonary exercise function of the no syndromes smokers has tendency of low.3 Cardiopulmonary exercise function is worse on smoking index is larger.4 Increment of MMP-9 and low of TIMP-1 are joined the low of cardiopulmonary exercise function no syndromes smokers5 Low of vitamine E andβ-Carotene are joined the low of cardiopulmonary exercise function no syndromes smokers6 Increment of MMP-9 and low of vitamine E have the same tendency effect in lung organization,s damage probably.
