Objective: To study the expression of Livin mRNA and Bcl-2 protein, their correlation and the effect on papillary thyroid carcinoma(PTC),and to investigate the role of Livin in the PTC.Methods: RT-PCR and immunohistochemical techniques were respectively used to detect the expression of Livin mRNA and Bcl-2 protein in 32 tissues of PTC.Results: The expression rate of Livin mRNA and Bcl-2 protein in PTC tissues were respectively 62.50% and 53.12%.The high expression of Livin and Bcl-2 had significant correlation with metastasis of PTC. However,no correlation was found between the expression and patient age, sexuality,or the clinical staging, and genesis of tumor tissues. There was not significant correlation between the expression of Livin and Bcl-2 (r=0.172,P> O.05).Conclusions: The high expression of Livin in PTC tissues suggests that it participates in the mechanism of genesis and development of PTC and can be used as an important prognostic index.Livin with Bcl-2 may not play a synergic role in the regulation of cell apoptosis in PTC.
