A stye(hordeolum) is a red,painful,swollen,cyst-like bump of the eyelid caused by a localized inflammatory process and low grade infection.A chalazion is a nodule of scar tissue that can remain after a stye resolves Hordeolum is one kind of purulent infection of one of the sebaceous glands of Zeis along the eyelid margin(external) or of the meibomian gland on the conjunctival side of the eyelid(internal),which is reffered to Chinese Medicine"Stolen needle""Tugan""Tuyang".The incidence of this disease is increasing in recent years.Although hordeolum is less important than other diseases which will cause to be blindness,it will give more trouble to the life and work,so we still have to pay more attention to it.First Literature ReviewBased on the symposium of hordeolum,The goals of pharmacotherapy are to treat the infection,to reduce morbidity,and to prevent complications。The key of treatment is to relieve the pain and to promote inflammation subsided.In Western medicine,A stye is treated with warm compresses and over-the-counter pain medication,such as acetaminophen(Tylenol) or ibuprofen(Advil).If the stye hasn't resolved in a week or two,or,if it grows larger,the redness and swelling spread beyond the lid onto the face or cheek,or patient develop a fever,then the patient contact his doctor,as antibiotics or occasionally, surgical drainage of the stye may be needed.Patients who suffering Hordeolum take antiphlogistic drug before suppuration,but when the hordeolum is in the process of suppuration,it has to open drainage.TCM holds that this disease is caused by wind-evil,could transmit heat of eyelids,the wind-heat turn the body fluid to ulcer;or have ate to much hot and stir-frying food lead the spleen and stomach accumulate wet heat so qi and blood stagnation stay the meridian of skin of eyelids.Recurrent attacks are caused by the remnant evil and lurking toxic heat or weakness of body.In Chinese medicine,patients takes clovershrub clearing away heat and toxic.The two treatments always delay the healing of Hordeolum.Applying Pinna Tip Bloodletting is the best way to treat Hordeolum,as it can speed up the healing process. Second clinical researchObjective:the pilot study is to discuss the mechanism in the treatment of hordeolum by bloodletting at ear apex based on comparing the effectiveness of conbined bloodletting at ear apex and medication with medication in the treatment of hordeolum and comparing the differences of blood at ear apex with fingertip.Research method:A randomized trial started from March 2007 to April 2009.Subjects were patients with hordeolum in the type of Hot off the wind symblepharon;The research is divided into two steps,the first is to comparing the effectiveness of conbined bloodletting at ear apex and medication with medication in the treatment of hordeolum,in the first step the patients were randomized into 2 groups,the treatment group for conbined bloodletting at ear apex and medication solution,and the control group for medication.The second step is to compare the differences in the blood of ear apex with fingertip.Use statistical packages SPSS11.0 statistics,pose a chi-square test,classified information used Wilcoxon rank sum test.P<0.05 as significant difference or correlationResult:The distribution in the eating habits,like eating spicy and fried accounted for 70.3%of patients;swelling in the eyelid,the treatment group to reduce eyelid swelling hordeolum better than the control group;pain in the eyes,the treatment group alleviate the symptoms of eye pain significantly better than the treatment group fingertips bled.Analysis in the blood,the blood in ear apex than the percentage of the fingertip blood cells increased significantly in WBC,lymphocytes and neutrophils there was no significant difference.Conclusion:There were statistically significant differences in the eyelid swelling and eyelid pain of the outcomes in both groups,there were statistically significant differences in the intermediate cell and eucocyte of the outcomes of blood.So we can suposs that the point of ear apex could stimulate the immune or is one important part of immune response.
