| Locking Compression Plate(LCP) is a new screw-plate system developed by combining the traditional plating techniques with the principles of internal fixator.Compared with traditional plates,LCP system offers a number of advantages in fracture management.LCP omits pre-bending, large-area exposure of fracture site, minimizes the damage to soft tissue, significantly reduces implant failure and decreases the incidence of infection and bone non-union.LCP with combination holes can be inserted standard AO screws or the new locking head screws, thereby LCP can be used either as a conventional compressing plate or as a internal fixator, the surgeon can use it for a great variety of fracture patterns.LCP offer new options in modern operative fracture care.Combined with Minimally Invasive Plate Osteosynthesis(MIPO) technology,LCP can minimizs soft tissue damage and reduces devascularization of the fracture fragments. This technique is consistent with biological osteosynthesis(BO) princinple and widely used in clinic. However, this system is complex, its successful use requires careful preoperative planning and good surgical technique.Failure to address these issues can lead to potential pitfalls. This paper highlights the reasons for failure and offers the countermeasures. |
