Objective To study the application of Computer aided design/Computer aided manufacture(CAD/CAM) in individual reconstruction of zygomatic bone defects.Methods Thirteen patients with defect resulted from tumor or tramma were treated. The 3-dimensional(3-D) models were created through 3-D CT and rapid prototype technique.The zygomatic bone on the unaffected side was copied to the affected side by CAD/CAM.The the titanium mesh was prefabricated accuratedly on the 3-D model. The pedicled buccal fat pad flap(PBFPF) and bone autograft.Results The measurement of The 3-dimensional(3-D) models reconstructive image and that of the original model were nearly equal.The Ti-plate reconstruction matched with the zygomatic bone.The zygomatic bone continuity and functions,and facial contour were satisfactorily rehabilated.Conclusions 3-D models would help to diagnose correctly and make the right planning before surgury.The time and the difficulty of operation were all decreased in the operating.The actual surgery results were satisfactory by surgeons and patients.Three-dimensional models have been proven to be accurate, efficient and convenient in the field of craniofiacial surgery.The use of three-dimensional model can be recommended as a beneficial assistance in clinical practice.
