[Background]Osteoarthritis is the most common form of joint disease, affecting the knee more than other joints.Several factors play a role in Osteoarthritis. This disease is characterized by chronic breakdown of cartilage, formation of osteophyte on the edge of joint, changes of hyperreactivity in bone under cartilage.According to recently statistic data, There are more than thousands of millions older people who are suffered from this disease. So,KOA has a significant influence on quality of life. Many patients are informed with those words, such as:KOA can' t be cured. Due to the exact factors are unknown, the purpose of treatment is alleviate joint pain, recovery joint function, and correction deformity. The non steroidal anti-inflammatory drug is widely used. However, this drug has toxic and side effect:gastrointestinal hemorrhage and cardio-cerebral vascular incidentBased on the TCM theory and the tutor' s experience,to objective assessment the clinical effect of penetration acupuncture on treating knee osteoarthritis by critical design.Enrich the Connotation of penetration acupuncture.Further study on the application regularity of qu chi point penetration shao hai point.[Objective]To observe the therapeutic effect of penetration acupuncture on treating knee osteoarthritis.[Methods]This trial is a randomly not-blinded.Sixty osteoarthritis patients were randomly divided into two group such as Intervention group and Control group. The intervention group was acupunctured by penetration needling from qu chi point(LI 11) to shao hai point(HT 3).However,The Control group was normally eleetro-acupunctured by nei xi yah point(EX-LE4),wai xi yan point(EX-LE5),yin ling quan point(SP 9),hai ling quan point(GB34) and he ding points.Evalute and compare the appraisal score and grade of the pain before treatments as well as the change of pain and general score after the treatments between the two groups.[Results]:1.The appraisal score of KOA:In the intervention group, there is a significant difference between after and before the penetration acupuncture (P<0.01).However,in the control group, there is also an obvious difference between after and before the electro- acupuncture(P<0.01).This indicates that both methods have an effect on improving the syndrome of KOA.2.The evaluation of main effect index:Before treatment, there is no difference between intervention group and control group in VAS score(P>0.05).Compared to before treatment, there is a significant difference in the VAS score after treatment. This means the penetration acupuncture and electro- acupuncture are also improve the VAS score(P<0.01).3.The two methods could effectively improve clinical symptoms of knee osteoarthritis. The effective rate was 86.66 percent in intervention group, while the effective rate was 86.66 percent in control group. There is no significant difference between the intervention group and the control group in relieving pain, improving the time of morning stiffness and enhancing the range of motion(P>0.05). 4.The safety assessment is all eligible.[Conclusions]:The method of penetration acupuncture from qu chi point to shao hai point can rapidly alleviate pain;improve the time of morning stiffness and range of motion. However, this study can' t determined that the penetration acupuncture is better than electro-acupuncture.
