OBJECTIVE: Study this paper aim at to discuss the influence of different clinical characteristics on prognosis which early breast cancer patients with 1~3 axillary lymph nodes metastasis received after radical surgery patients, and the relationship between prognosis and postoperative radiotherapy, the number of lymph node metastasis, lymph node metastasis rate and the number of lymph nodes examined as well.METHOD: Retrospective analysis of 154 cases of breast cancer patients with 1~3 axillary lymph node metastasis in early stage from January 1st 1996 to August 31st 2005, of which 68 cases received radiation therapy after surgery (radiotherapy group) and 86 cases without radiation therapy (non-radiotherapy group). The data was analyzed with SPSS respectively. RESULT: (1)in our study 18 patients lost before August 22nd 2008.The median follow-up for the whole group was 60 months(ranging from 6 to 153 months). The 1, 3, 5 years survival rate in this group are 98%, 89% and 82% respectively. (2) the 5-year survival rates for early breast cancer with 1 lymph node metastasis and 2 lymph nodes metastasis are 88%, 68%(x2=4.375, P=0.036). (3) there was no significant difference in the overall survival and the tumor-free survival rates between the radiotherapy group and the non-radiotherapy group (P =0.234,0.447>0.05). (4) there was no significant difference between the radiotherapy group and the non-radiotherapy group in metastasis, lymph node metastasis and the number of patients with lymph mode metastasis (P>0.05).CONCLUSION: Our study demonstrate that there is no statistically significant in overall survival rates and the tumor-free survival rates for early breast patients with 1~3 axillary lymph nodes after receiving postoperative radiotherapy .
