| Objective Urinary Tract Infection(UTI) within the hospital patients with Spinal Cord Injury(SCI) in the period of rehabilitation is the most common complications. A number of risk factors may affect its occurrence. Further researching and clearly understanding the risk factors affecting its occurrence within the hospital patients with SCI in the period of rehabilitation, will contribute to reduce the incidence of UTI, improve the effectiveness of rehabilitation treatment of the patients, shorten the patients'length of stay in hospital, upgrade the patients'quality of life. Methods 140 clinical cases were collected within the hospital patients with SCI from May 2003 to November 2008 in the Rehabilitation Medicine Wards of the First Clinical College of Guangxi Medical University. 11 factors that may affect the incidence of UTI within the patients with SCI in the period of rehabilitation were choosen, grouped separately. We compared the rate of UTI respectively, using single factor analysis to determine the risk factors affecting the incidence of UTI, multi-factor logistic regression analysis to determine the independent risk factors affecting its occurrence. Results The total incidence of UTI was 44.29% within the 140 cases. Single-factor analysis showed that the degree of SCI, catheter indwelling time, the frequency of catheter flushing, bladder district physiotherapy, rehabilitation intervention time, previous use of antibiotics, the time of using antibiotics and hypoproteinemia were risk factors affecting the incidence of UTI within the patients with SCI in the period of rehabilitation. Multi-factor logistic regression analysis showed that the degree of SCI (P=0.001), catheter indwelling time (P=0) were the independent risk factors affecting its incidence within the hospital patients with SCI in the period of rehabilitation. Conclusion A number of risk factors have affected the incidence of UTI within the hospital patients with SCI in the period of rehabilitation. The degree of SCI and catheter indwelling time were the independent risk factors affecting its incidence within the hospital patients with SCI in the period of rehabilitation. |
