Objective:To approach the value and complications of endoprosthetic reconstruction after wide tumor excision on the patients with neoplasms at the extremity tibia. Methods:We retrospectively reviewed 24 patients who underwent endoprosthetic reconstruction for primary bone tumor of the extremity tibia from 2002 to 2007.The histologic diagnoses of these patients included 19 osteosarcomas,2 malignant fibrous histiocytomas, and 3 giant cell tumors.21 malignant tumor are all stageingâ…¡B by Enneking stages and 3 giant cell tumors are all stageingâ…¢by Campanacci stages. The functional outcomes were evaluated by MSTS 93 score.Result:The average duration of follow-up was 46 months(range from 18 - 76 months). 5 patients with osteosarcomas succumbed to metastasis.1 patient amputated extremity after region recidivation. All patients received caput mediale musculi gastrocnemii flap transplantation without postoperative infection and muscle flap necrosis.16 patients were found bone graft knitted with host and formed bone shell. The The average MSTS93 functional scores for 24 patients was 24.8(range from 18 - 28 months). The range of initiative flection and extendion was 65-100degree,absence of extendion was 5-25degree.Conclusions:Endoprosthetic reconstruction for neoplasms of the extremity tibia in limbsalvage surgery got good postoperative function and low complication rate.
