Objective The objective of this study is to investigate the geometrical characteristics on inferior alveolar nerve and the relationship of inferior alveolar nerve along with lingual side and buccal sides in Taiwanese with using a CT scanner. The result of the study can provide a clinical information for implant surgery in the mandible region. Methods 34 Taiwanese adults including 15 males and 19 females with average age of 52.02 were chosen to perform measurement. The procedures are as follows: (1)Scan the mandible region using a Computed tomographic scanner. The image resolution is 0.2 to 0.4mm. (2)Perform multiplannar reconstruction to obtain the tomographic and axial section images. (3) Identify and measure the geometrical parameters of the pathway of inferior alveolar nerve. (4)Perform statistical analysis on the collected data.Result 1,Statistical analysis shows that there are significant differences between Males and females2,Age above 50 and under 50 in the distance of lingual side.3,Whether there is first molar tooth and the distance of anterior first molar tooth. Conclusion From the study of the geometrical characteristics of CT images, the pathway of inferior alveolar nerve of Taiwanese adults is related to gender, age and whether there is first molar tooth. For safety reasons, dental implant should be thoroughly investigated before surgery for different cases in order to decrease the occurrences of complications.
