Type 2 diabetes mellitus (Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, T2DM) is a metabolic syndrome, whose main features is a long-term high blood sugar. Diabetic Nephropathy (Diabetic Nephropathy, DN) is one of the common chronic complications of type 2 diabetes mellitus, the incidence rate was 20% ~ 40%, which has seriously affected the quality of life in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, which has become the main reason for death in patients with disabling. In recent years, the relationship between many cytokines produced by the adipose tissue and diabetic nephropathy has been received increasing attention. It was found that serum adiponectin and visfatin levels are associated with diabetes. The study of the relationship between serum adiponectin, visfatin levels and type 2 diabetic nephropathy is more and more concerned. Through this experiment, we has been further recognized on the relationship serum adiponectin, visfatin levels and type 2 diabetic nephropathy. Objective: To study the changes of blood serum adiponectin, visfatin in diabetic nephropathy caused by T2DM, and find out their relationships between blood serum adiponectin, visfatin and diabetic nephropathy. Methods: Based on WHO diabetes mellitus diagnosis standard, 63 T2DM patients were selected randomly. By urinary protein and urinary albumin examination, they were divided into:(1)T2DM (DM) 39 samples, (2) T2DM related Diabetic Nephropathy (DN) 24 samples, (3) normal control group (NC) 29 samples. After statistics analysis these three groups could be compared. Results: Serum adiponectin level in DM group were significantly lower than that in healthy control group, the concentration of serum adi- ponectin in DN group was significantly lower than that in the healthy con- trol group (t = 2.45, P <0.05; t = 2.61, P <0.05); Serum visfatin concen- tration in DM group were significantly higher than that in the healthy control group, and DN group in serum visfatin concentration was also significantly higher than healthy control group (t = 3.32, P <0.01; t = 2.61, P <0.05). Serum adiponectin levels in DN groups was significantly higher than that in DM group (t = 2.34, P <0.05); There was no significant difference in serum visfatin levels between DN groups and DM group(t = 0.85, P> 0.05).Conclusions:1. Reduced blood serum adiponectin is associated with in type 2 diabetes mellitus. Increased blood serum adiponectin not only plays a role in the development of diabetic nephropathy, but possibly also has great meaning during diagnosis, prevention and treatment.2. Increased blood serum visfatin is associated with in type 2 diabetes mellitus.
