Objective:Study the histocompatibility and biodegradation characteristics of poly(1,4-buty-lene terephthalate-co-ethylene oxide-co-DL-lactide)(PBTEOLA) in vivo and in vitro. Methods:The specimens were taken out at 2,4,6,8,10,12,14 and 16 weeks, which were immersed in phosphate buffer or implanted in the subcutaneous tissue of SD rats on both sides of the spine. The specimens were weighed accurately to detect the weight of materials before and after degradation and checked the surface signs by the use of scanning electron microscope. The periphery tissue reaction was learned by the histopathology section. Results:The PBTEOLA specimens degraded into small particles. The biodegradation tendency in vivo was similar to what in vitro. There was no abscess formation and tissue necrosis surrounding the implanted materials.Little inflammatory reaction due to materials implanted were observed. Conclusion:The biodegradable material of PBTEOLA has good histocompatibility and appropriate biodegradation characteristics and will meet the request for urological stent. The biodegradable material PBTEOLA is worth to be researched and studied further.
