Objectives When trachea have to be cut above 6 cm, we could not anastomose trachea end to end commonly, usually artificial trachea should be implanted to reconstruct air tube. Now, there are many defect in all kinds of artificial trachea. We have these contrast texts to investigate and evaluate the biomechanical property of new compound trachea and adult excised dog trachea in order to provide the experimental methods and evidence for further study of compound artificial trachea.Methods We adopted Compound artificial trachea(Patent ID: ZL200610032032.5) and adult excised dog trachea with INSTRON model1342 servo-handle tension test machine was used to measure the biomechanical index such as Tensile Properties, Residual stress, Bursting strength, Radial pedestal force and Bending stiffness.Results The max load in adult excised dog's trachea is 155.98N, while in artificial trachea the number is 87.25N, about half of the max load of adult excised dog trachea. The former Young's medulus is 13.00 Mpa, the latter is 12.78Mpa,The corresponding Stress-straining curve of the two is clearly different. The results showed that Residual stress was remained in the adult excised dog's trachea and tracheal prosthesis. The Bursting strength from dog's pharyngeal portion to eminence of the trachea gradually dropped off with the data of 277mmHg at the pharyngeal portion while it is 266mmHg at the eminence. The force of radial pedestal was measured to be about 11. 24N. when the diameter of dog's trachea was compressed to 50%,while in tracheal prosthesis it is about 5.29N in the same way. The load is 1. 75N and 2. 11N respectively according to the dog's trachea bend to 50°from back to forth or from left to right, while in tracheal prosthesis the load is 3.35N.Conclusion 1)The max load of Compound artificial trachea was inferior to dog's trachea in Tensile Propertiesin attribute to the insecure injection between the e-PTFE vascular prosthesis and the Titanium link. so we should improve the junction ways of two different materials. 2) It shows that artificial trachea has smaller Residual stress with even distribution between axial electron and circumferential direction and It's interior walls can endure more powerful pressure without broken, compare with the dog trachea. The dog tracheal Residual stress is mainly concentrate on Paries membranaceus trachea and increase gradually along with the axial direction, so the eminence of trachea is be prone to broke. 3)Although the character of artificial tracheal radial pedestal and Bending stiffness is inferior to the dog trachea, it is basically meet the needs of the tracheal placement of experimental dog attribute to the two titanium rings in both sides which efficiently prevent the collapse of the stomas.
