| Objective:To evaluate the prevalence of metabolic syndrome(MS) among adults aged 20~75 years in Hunan province.To analyze the epidemic features of MS among adults aged 20~75 years in Hunan province.To clarify the prediction on MS with anthropometic parameters.Method:The study was conducted from April to August,2008.2956 residents from the Changsha metropolitan areas,Liuyang citiy and Cili county in Hunan province,who had lived at least five years and aged 20~75 years,were enrolled in our survey.Face-to-face interviews were conducted using a structured questionnaire followed by trained health workers.The body weight,body height,waist circumference(WC) and blood pressure were examined in these subjects.Meanwhile,fasting plasma glucose(FPG),triglyceride(TG),serum total cholesterol(TC), high density lipoprotein-cholesterol(HDL-C) and low density lipoproteincholesterol (LDL-C) were also tested.MS was defined using the International Diabetes Federation(IDF) definition.Multiple linear regression analysis was used to determine the factor associated with FPG, TG,HDL-C.Non-conditional logistic regression analysis was used to identify the prediction on MS with anthropometic parametersResults:The crude prevalences of MS were 15.5%,11.3%,18.1%in the overall population,male,female,respectively,while the agestandardized rates were 12.6%,10.5%,14.4%accordingly.MS rate was significantly higher in female compared with male(p=0.000).The prevalence of MS increased with age in female,male aged 20~40 years, while the rate of MS decreased with age in male over 50 years.The crude prevalences of obesity,hypertriglyceridemia,low-HDL-C,hypertension and abnormal fasting plasma glucose were 28.6%,26.0%,39.9%,31.4%, 14.9%,respectively,while the age-standardized rates were 25.6%,24.1%, 40.0%,25.6%,12.0%,accordingly.The prevalences of MS and related diseases were higher in urban than rural residents.In all subjects,FPG was significantly associated with WC and WHR,and WC was the greatest.TG was significantly associated with WC and BMI,and the association with WC was greater.HDL-C was only associated with BMI. Among male subjects,the combination of WC,WHR,BMI,SBP and DBP accounted for 94.4%,88.2%,95.2%of the variance of MS in all subjects,subjects with MS,subjects without MS,respectively.And if WHR was deleted,the rest four items accounted for 94.2%,92.9%, 94.4%of the variance,respectively.The combination of WC,SBP and DBP accounted for 93.3%,57.5%,97.9%of the variance,respectively. Among female subjects,any logistic regression equation can accounted for 88.6%,57.1%,95.5%of the variance in all subjects,subjects with MS, subjects without MS.Conclusion:There are high prevalences of MS and its related diseases among adults aged 20~75 years in Hunan province.Female people aged over 50 years are at higher risk for MS.The combination of WC,BMI,and BP can be used as a simple predictor for MS in medical clinical practice. |
