Lateral-Bending Ridiogragh And Operation Treatment Of Scoliosis With Syringomyelia And/or Chiari Malformation

Objective:Through the analysis of patients' operation treatment of Scoliosis with Syringomyelia and/or Chiari malformation,to evaluate the value of Lateral-bending radiogragh in operation strategy,and develop a new way of operation.Methods:Though the study of 32 patients suffered from scoliosis with Syringomyelia and/or Chiari malformation from 2002 to 2008,were divided into two groups for surgical treament: (1),Group 1:6 cases had scoliosis with Syringomyelia and/or Chiari malformation without obvious neurological impairment,their scoliosis was corrected with anteroposterior instrumentation after Halo's traction of one week. (2),Group 2:another 26 cases having similar scoliosis underwent posterior orthopedic operation according to the result of preoperative suboccipital Lateral-Bending radiograph,which was correspond to the Lateral-Bending radiograph's correction rate±10°.Results:In 6 patients who underwent operation after traction,the average frontal correction was 61%.In another 26 patients with only posterior operation,the average frontal correction were 56.6% and52.2Conclusion:To the patients of scoliosis with Syringomyelia and/or Chiari malformation without obvious neurological impairment can be operated on the basis of Lateral-Bending radiograph's correction,even more±10°.And the therapeutic effect was similar to the result of classic operation.
